Thanks to the expert hand of Nigeria’s Emmanuel Amuneke, Tanzania will be at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament this summer for just the second time in the nation’s history – the last time was in 1980!
Concise News reports that reacting after the Taifa Stars were certain of their place in Egypt, Head Coach Amuneke said: “Maybe it’s God, maybe it’s the Players, or maybe Tanzanians…but when I came here, my first press conference in August I said one thing, it is hard work that will take us through, I believe in hard work.”
The ex-Nigerian international becomes the second Nigerian to lead another African country to the continental showpiece after the late Stephen Keshi guided Togo also to Egypt in 2016.
Amuneke, an ex-Barcelona player, has had managerial stints with Julius Berger, Ocean Boys, Nigeria’s under 17 national team and Al Khartoum SC.
He was in charge when Nigeria won the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.
