The Nigerian government on Thursday ordered the closure of land borders in Sokoto, Benue and Adamawa ahead of the March 23 supplementary elections in the states.
Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, said the borders would be closed from Friday noon to Sunday noon.
Dambazau announced the closure of the borders through a statement signed by Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede.
“The public is to take note and ensure compliance,” he said.
The country’s electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), also fixed March 23 for governorship supplementary elections in Bauchi, Kano and Plateau states.
