Akwa United marksman, Mfon Udoh believes that the bulk of commendation for their impressive performances in the last seven matches of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) must go to the team and not necessarily on the account of his goals and that of his strike partner, Ndifreke Effiong.
Concise News reports that Effiong and Udoh scored for the two-time AITEO Cup winners in their 2-1 win against Heartland on Sunday with Chidiebere Ajoku’s goal coming in between.
However, Udoh says the Promise Keepers is not just about him or his strike partner Effiong but credited their performance so far to the whole contingent of Akwa United.
The former Enyimba man has already shrugged off the win at Heartland and says the focus is on the reverse game when they will play hosts to the Naze Millionaires at the Nest of Champions in Uyo where they had a terrible start losing to El-Kanemi Warriors 0-1 on the opening day of the campaign.
The 27-year-old knows they have to complete the double to stand a chance to upstage FC Ifeanyiubah at the summit of Group B depending on the outcome of the matches on the next matchday.
“Actually the goals really don’t matter to me. What really matters to me is that we were able to achieve the goal to pick the maximum points here (in Okigwe against Heartland),” Udoh tells npfl.ng.
“We are all happy that we got our objective and the fans and everyone associated with the club is delighted about the feat.
“With this result, we are second on the log and I think if we go home and are able to beat Heartland in Uyo we might go top of the table in Group B.
“I won’t say the partnership between me and Ndifreke Effiong alone but I will say the team as a whole has made this happen. I will congratulate the whole team for the tremendous way in which we have stormed back to life in the last seven games in which we have gone unbeaten both at home and away. We all should be commended and not only the two strikers.”
Maintained his place at the top of #EunisellBoot goals chart with his eighth goal in Okigwe.

Udoh explains impressive form
Furthermore, the striker then took time to speak on his renewed zeal and his awe-inspiring display in front of goal this season after returning to the same club he left for Enyimba few seasons ago.
He says: “In football, self-motivation is very important and so also are hard work and the drive to better your previous achievements. I have always taken a new challenge as another opportunity to test my resolve to excel and I am happy that everything is going according to plan at present for me.
“I will continue to work harder and not allow anything to distract me at this point in time. It will be a big boost to move abroad but it is not the target for now. I want to try and stay fit and help my team to qualify for the playoffs at the end of the regular season.”
Udoh has netted eight times and provided four assists which has helped the Promise Keepers breathe down the necks of Group B leaders FC Ifeanyi Ubah whose lead have been trimmed to two points.
