Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday confirmed the arrivals of the foreign-based players on the official Twitter handle of Super Eagles, which reads: “Our camp has opened in Asaba, Delta State for Friday’s #2019AFCONQ vs Seychelles & the international friendly vs Egypt . Three-time African champion, Nigeria are already assured of a place at the Africa Cup of Nations holding in Egypt this summer, and the encounter against the Pirates is inconsequential.
But the Eagles have spoken of a need to end the qualification series on a high while using the game to kick-start preparations for the AFCON in Egypt.
Super Eagles take on the Pirates of Seychelles at the Stephen Keshi Stadium. Kick-off time is 4:00 pm on Friday.
Goalkeepers Francis Uzoho, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi are all in town, as well as home-based professionals Ikouwem Utin, Ndifreke Effiong and Valentine Ozornwafor.
The bulk of the invited group of 23 will come in today (Tuesday), with the friendly against the Pharaohs of Egypt scheduled for next Tuesday.
Coach Gernot Rohr called up 23 players for the two matches, with Utin and Effiong leaping on to the list as a result of injuries to Samuel Kalu and Ola Aina.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles currently top Group E with 10 points from 5 matches, followed closely by South Africa who has 9 points. Libya and Seychelles have 7 and 1 points respectively.
