The wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, has commiserated with the families of victims of Wednesday’s building collapse in Itafaaji, Lagos.

Buhari, in a condolence message through her Twitter handle on Friday, prayed to God to grant the families the fortitude to bear the loss.

‘‘My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims, especially innocent children who died and some who are still trapped in the rubble of the collapsed building in Itafaji, Lagos.

‘‘I pray the state government and the rescue agencies are able to save more children,” she said.

Concise News reports that the Lagos State Government has disclosed that 20 children and adult died in the collapsed building in Itafaaji area of Lagos Island on Wednesday.

State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, released the official figures at a news conference at the Lagos Island General Hospital, Lagos, on Friday.

The commissioner also disclosed that 43 people were rescued alive and were receiving treatment.

Also, the Lagos State Government on Friday began the demolition of distressed buildings on Lagos Island.

The move is as a result of the collapsed building at Itafaji area of Lagos Islands in which several people, majorly school children were killed.

Officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), backed by policemen stormed Freeman Street, Lagos Island around 9:50 am and immediately began demolition.

It was gathered that a three-storey building at 60 Freeman Street was being demolished as at 10 am on Friday.

Also, Lasema has said there is no casualty left under the debris of the collapsed building in the area.
