Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane has signed defender Eder Militao from Porto in his first signing since returning to the European champions.
Real will pay the Portuguese club £43million for Militao, who will arrive at the Bernabeu in the summer, for a six-year contract.
The 21-year-old has been on Los Blancos’ radar for some time with Liverpool and Manchester United also showing interest.
But Real have won the race for the highly-rated stopper.
In a statement on their website, the club said: “Eder Gabriel Militao is a new Real Madrid player until 2025.
“He comes from Porto, where in his first season he has become one of the main protagonists of the Portuguese League.
“He has been named the best defender of the championship for five consecutive months.
“A multi-purpose player, Militao plays central, although he has also occupied the right-back position.
“He stands out for his speed, positioning and ability to anticipate danger. In addition, he has a good aerial game.”
Militao only arrived at Porto from Sao Paulo in Serie A last summer.
He penned a five-year contract and has scored three goals in 33 games in all competitions so far this term.
