The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has won 19 out of 24 seats in the state House of Assembly election held on 9 March in the state.
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the northeast state, Umar Ibrahim, said 253 candidates from 34 political parties vied for the 24-legislative seats.
Out of the 253 candidates, only 18 or 7.12 per cent were female and out of the 18 females that contested the election only two of them won.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which presently leads the house with 16 members as against APC’s eight, clinched the five remaining seats.
Eight local government areas were won by APC, including parts of Shongom, while the PDP retained Billiri, Nafada and parts of Shongom.
The LGAs won by APC included Akko, Gombe, Yamaltu-Deba, Funakaye, Balanga, Dukku, Kaltungo and Kwami.
