Senegal international Sadio Mane and Dutch man Virgil Van Dijk bagged a brace apiece, with Belgian Divock Origi also netting for Jurgen Klopp’s men on a perfect night in front of their supporters.

The Reds, by virtue of this win, are on 69 points, one ahead of second-placed Manchester City, who edged out stubborn West Ham 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

Elsewhere, Chelsea recovered from their League Cup defeat to City with a 2-0 triumph over London rivals Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.

Second-half goal from Spaniard Pedro and another one, an own goal, by Kieran Trippier, ensured the Blues overcame Spurs.

But Chelsea, who have a game in hand, remain in sixth position as Manchester United defeated Crystal Palace 3-1 on the road to keep in touch with fourth-placed Arsenal who fired five goals past Bournemouth in a 5-1 win at the Emirates Stadium.

In another game, struggling Southampton humbled fellow strugglers Fulham 2-0 in a battle to avoid relegation from the EPL.
