The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, will on Wednesday (today) update heads of diplomatic missions and international organisations accredited to monitor elections in Nigeria on INEC preparations for the elections.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman, George Edokpa, on Tuesday, adding that the briefing would hold at Tafawa Balewa House, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
Many envoys including the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington; United Kingdom High Commissioner, Catriona Laing; and other senior diplomats are expected to be at the meeting.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had postponed the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled to hold last Saturday, February 16, over logistic problems.
The Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the announcement after an emergency meeting of the Commission with other stakeholders that lasted for several hours.
According to Yakubu, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on Saturday, 23 February.
The Commission also shifted governorship, State Assembly and Federal Capital Territory council polls from March 2 to March 9.
