Nigerians have expressed surprise at the call-off of the boycott of the 2019 elections by the leader of the banned Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu and IPOB had called for a boycott of the 2019 elections in the South East and fixed a referendum on February 16, the same day as the presidential election.

However, a statement by Kanu on Thursday said the boycott has been canceled following consultations and meetings.

“Having confirmed this evening that all our preconditions and terms have been met, signed, sealed and delivered; I hereby call-off the election boycott across Biafraland on Feb. 16, 2019,” Kanu tweeted.

“I dedicate this historic victory to the formidable. #IPOB family worldwide.”

The development has, however, drawn diverse reactions from Nigerians who took to social media to express their opinions.
