Coach Imama Amapakabo has invited Enyimba’s Wasiu Alalade, Ebube Duru of Lobi Stars and Abia Warriors goalkeeper Joshua Enaholo to the U-23 national team camp in Abuja.
Concise News reports that the Abuja camp will open today (Wednesday) ahead of next month’s U23 Afcon qualifier against Libya, according to officials.
Alalade was top-scorer for the Flying Eagles but was sensationally dropped for the U20 Afcon in Niger repubic, while Lobi left-back Duru shone for the Eagles ‘B’ team in last year’s friendly against Atletico Madrid.
MFM product Enaholo is making a return to international football after representing the Flying Eagles in 2015 as first-choice goalkeeper.
He has been in excellent form for Abia Warriors this season.
Kano Pillars have three players in the camp – Uzuchukwu Austin Ayaya, Yusuf Maigoro and Shammah Tanze.
Gombe United goalkeeper Adewale Adeyinka, Katsina United defender Chinedu Ajanah, as well as Olisa Ndah of Remo Stars and FC Ifeanyi Ubah striker Chijoke Alakwe, are among the other players called up.
Nigeria was given a pass to the next round of qualifiers by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) as they are the defending champions.
They were to meet with the winners between Libya and Gambia in the second round of qualification.
However, Gambia pulled out meaning Libya is Nigeria’s latest stumbling block.
The two-legged tie with the Northern African nation is scheduled for next month (March) with the winners to take on victors of the other side of the draw which include Seychelles, Sudan, Kenya, and Mauritius.
Finally, the eight winners in the third round of the qualification series will all advance to the competition scheduled to hold in Egypt from, Friday, November 8, till Friday, November 22, 2019.
