Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers has assured President Muhammadu Buhari that the people of the state will not support violence as the election draws closer.
Wike gave the assurance on Tuesday in Port Harcourt as Buhari came for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential rally.
According to Wike, the people of the state are peace-loving and will not go to war over the polls.
Concise News understands that Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi had sung an Igbo war song during the rally.
However, Wike has said that efforts to cause war in the state before, during and after the polls will not succeed.
“Rivers State does not believe in violence and we will not support any dance for violence,” he added.
“Those who sing other people’s song for violence, they know what they achieve. They know what they gain.”
He continued: “I want to assure the President that Rivers State is a peaceful state. It will never be a violent state.
“I will not support violence and Rivers people will not support violence.”
