Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has said striker Odion Ighalo is instrumental to the team’s quest to win the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Rohr’s team qualified for the competition last year after a 1-1 draw with South Africa.
Ighalo who had a poor outing at the 2018 World Cup has been in fine form for the West Africans during the qualifying series.
His club Changchun Yatai has been relegated from the Chinese Super League but Rohr believes the player’s outing at the World Cup was not because he is not playing in Europe.
”Look playing in China has nothing to do with performance,” the coach said.
“Ighalo practically qualified us for the Nation Cup despite playing in Chinese Super League. My prayer is for him to remain in top form for the AFCON.
“He is a key to us winning the AFCON in Egypt which is my target. He has courage and speed which is very important in any competition.”
