British-Nigerian actress, Cynthia Erivo has featured in Harriet, a biopic about revered political activist Harriet Tubman.
Focus Features released the first official images from the upcoming Harriet Tubman biopic Harriet and many were surprised as the Tony Award-winning actress will be making the historical figure.
According to Collider, the film production is helmed by Black Nativity filmmaker Kasi Lemmons, who also directed episodes of Luke Cage and Shots Fired, while the screenplay is written by Lemmons and Gregory Allen Howard.
As at press time, it was unclear the specific angle the storyline follows, although the official synopsis says the film will chronicle Tubman’s escape from slavery and subsequent missions to free dozens of slaves through the Underground Railroad in the face of growing pre-Civil War adversity.
Last year, she made her feature film debut with a supporting role in Steve McQueen’s Widows, and a co-lead in Drew Goddard’s Bad Times at the El Royale.
