Senator Shehu Sani has urged the international community to take seriously the threat by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna on foreign observers ahead of the 2019 election.
El-Rufai had said on Tuesday that those who are interested in interfering in the country’s election will go back in “body bags.”
He noted that Nigeria is an independent nation and this should be allowed to carry out its activities independently.
The comment had sparked outrage, with theΒ Peoples Democratic PartyΒ (PDP) calling on the international community toΒ impose aΒ travel ban on the governor.
While reacting to the comment, Sani who represents Kaduna Central, noted that the threat must be taken seriously.
βThe threat to kill foreigners who βinterfereβ in Nigeriaβs elections is a condemnable act. Nigerians and the International community must take this seriously,” he tweeted.
βThe sources and plots of violence is now clear.”
He lamented that βWhile our mind is set on ballot boxes and votes, theirs is set on bullets, bodybags & coffins.β
