Benue state governor Samuel Ortom has called on the people of the north-central state to receive President Muhammadu Buhari with due respect during his reelection campaign in Benue on Wednesday.

Ortom was one of the three northern governors that decamped from Buhari’s All Progressives Congress (APC) to the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2018.

But in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, the governor of the Food Basket of the Nation wished Buhari a hitch-free campaign in the state as he enjoined the people of Benue to be law-abiding.

“Governor Ortom, on behalf of the government and people of Benue State, wishes President Buhari a peaceful outing in the state,” part of the statement read.

Ortom did not stop there.

The governor urged his people to refrain from acts of provocation such as offensive songs, posters and other messages that might heat up the polity.

Buhari had on Tuesday campaigned in Ekiti state, where he told supporters of the All Progressives Congress and the people of the Fountain of Knowledge that the party had the best plans for the development of Nigeria.
