Unknown persons who broke into the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have burnt several uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Concise gathered that the yet to be identified individuals broke into the INEC office in Abia State in the early hours of Sunday, 3rd Feb. 2019.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Joseph Iloh, confirmed that about 15,000 uncollected PVCs were burnt as well as the register containing the number of registered voters.

Iloh, however, said that the Commission has the authentic list of registered voters at its headquarters in Umuahia, the state capital.

The Police, on the other hand, say they are investigating the matter and the perpetrators of the crime will be brought to book.

The incident is coming just days to the general elections.

Meanwhile, INEC had said it would lock uncollected PVCs at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, on or before Feb 8, urging Nigerians to go for their cards in various LGAs.

the commission’s Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, wondered why those who own the cards had not collected them.

He said, “The reports from different states indicate that many Nigerians have collected their Permanent Voters Cards. Most Nigerians are aware that the commission registered a total of 84, 004,084 eligible voters.
