The industry is basking in success with the movie and music industries furnishing the Nigerian economy with billions, many thanks to the growing smartphone and internet penetration in the country.

Nigerian musicians have also been smiling to the banks, having experienced a boom in digital sales, downloads and online streaming.

The A-list musicians make more money from performing, hosting live gigs, brand endorsements, ring back tones, mobile streaming and music licensing.

They have also made their way into the international music scene, collaborating with some of the biggest names in the business.

Stars like Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, Mr Eazi, Teni, Niniola and Davido have taken Nigerian music beyond the shores of Africa.

According to BookedByUs, Teni, who rose to limelight in 2017 took number 1 spot for local bookings in December.

Teniola Apata is a Nigerian singer/songwriter better known as Teni the entertainer or Teni Makanaki. She was previously signed to Shizzi’s Magic Fingers Records where she released her debut single, Amen and then signed to Osadolor Nate Asemota’s Dr Dolor Entertainment in 2017.

Teni came into prominence after the release of her single, Fargin, in September 2017. She followed up with hits throughout 2018 including the top 10 singles, AskamayaCase and Uyo Meyo.

She won The Headies Awards Rookie of the Year in May 2018 and the Best New Artiste at Soundcity MVP Awards Festival.


Tiwa Savage

Tiwa Savage is one of the talents, who has already released many songs in a short time of her musical career.

Some of her works are Kele Kele Love, Eminando, and Ife wa gbona, One, Tiwa’s Vibe. She has worked alongside such famous music icons as Eminem, 50 Cent, Black Eyed Peas, and Robbie Williams.

While she was studying at the Berklee College of Music, she entered the 24 finalists in the UK X-Factor music gala event. Now she is named the richest and most popular female Nigerian artiste and titled First Lady of Mavin Records.

Damini Ogulo, known globally as Burna Boy, is a Nigerian Afro-fusion singer and songwriter. He rose to prominence in 2012 after the release of “Like To Party“, the first single off his debut album “L.I.F.E”.

He is widely regarded as one of the most talented, versatile, and consistent artistes in the Nigerian music industry; with hit tracks like ‘Yawa Dey’, ‘Like to Party’, ‘Tonight’, ‘Check and  Balance’, ‘Don Gorgon’, ‘Soke’, and most recently ‘On the low’.

Burna’s ever-changing but unique music style is majorly inspired by Fela Kuti, who was once managed by Burna Boy’s grandfather Benson Idonije.



Folarin Falana, better known by his stage name Falz, is a versatile Nigerian singer, rapper, actor, and songwriter.

He began his career while in secondary school after forming a group called “The School Boys” with his friend before his professional career as a music artiste began in 2009.

Falz became more well-known after his song “Marry Me” (featuring vocals from Poe and Yemi Alade) won him a nomination in the “Best Collaboration of The Year” category at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

He was also nominated in the “Best Rap Act of The Year” and “Best New Act to Watch” categories. Falz currently owns an independent record label called Bahd Guys Records.

David Adedeji Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer.

His 2011 single “Dami Duro” was well-received throughout Nigeria. He is known for IF, Fall, Dami Duro, Aye, Gobe, Assurance, Nwa baby amongst others. Davido is also a co-owner of the HKN Music label with his brother Adewale Adeleke.

He has produced songs for Naeto C, Skales, Tiwa Savage and Sauce Kid. In April 2012, he signed an endorsement deal with MTN Nigeria.

On October 23, 2013, Davido partnered Guinness Nigeria for the “Guinness World of More” concert.

Davido started his own label, Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), in 2016 with Dremo, Mayorkun, Perruzi, Yonda and Zlatan currently signed to the label.


Wixkid, Africa’s seventh richest musician according to Forbes.

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, also known as Wizkid, started singing when he was only 11 years old. He is, perhaps, the most famous Nigerian musician both locally and internationally.

He shot into limelight with ‘Holla at ur boy’, released in 2010. Wizkid has collaborated with many international artistes including Chris Brown, Kendrick Lamar, Trey Songs, Drake, and Alicia Keys.

In 2016, Wizkid achieved international recognition following his collaboration with Drake on the global hit, “One Dance”, which reached number one in 15 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.

Wizkid, who is the face of many commercial brands, signed a one-year endorsement deal with Pepsi reportedly worth 350,000 U.S dollars in 2012.

Niniola Apata, better known by her stage name Niniola, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. She rose to recognition in 2013 after finishing third runner-up on the sixth season of Project Fame West Africa.

Upon the release of her breakthrough debut single “Ibadi”, Niniola was nominated in the “Most Promising Act to Watch” category at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

She is currently signed to Drumroll Records.

On 19 March 2014, Niniola released her debut single “Ibadi”, produced by Sarz. The song, which received positive critical reviews, topped national music charts and gained extensive airplay.

Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, also known as Kizz Daniel (May 2018), is a Nigerian recording artiste, performer and entertainer, best known for his chart-topping single “Woju” and “Yeba”.

Formally signed to G-Worldwide Entertainment in 2013, Kizz Daniel left the company in November 2017 to create his own record label, Fly Boy Inc.

He released his first studio album titled New Era on May 14, 2016.

The year 2018 was good for the “Woju” crooner, who featured Wizkid on a song “For You” and the DMW boss, Davido, on another single “One Ticket”.

Olamide Adedeji, known as Olamide, is a Hip-Hop artiste and a songwriter. He started his music career in 2010 and since then has released 7 studio albums: ‘Rapsodi,’ ’YBNL,’ ‘Baddest Guy Ever Liveth,’ ‘Street OT,’ ‘Eyan Mayweather,’ ‘THE GLORY,’ and ‘Lagos Nawa.’

His hit singles are ‘Eni Duro,’ ‘First of All,’ ‘Voice of the Streets,’ ‘Durosoke,’ ‘Story for the Gods,’ ‘Goons Mi,’ ‘Bobo,’ ‘Lagos Boys,’ and the street anthem ‘Wo.’

He owns ‘YBNL Nation’ record label and was awarded at Best Rap Album Awards and Album of the Year Awards. He also won Best Male Artiste in Africa at AFRIMA.

Okafor Uchenna Victor Popularly known by his stage name Mr Real is a Nigerian musician born and bred in Lagos State, Nigeria.

The Okija-born music act rose to fame with his hit song ‘Legbegbe’. The song, which put him in the spotlight for the first time, earned him a live performance at the 3rd edition of Big Brother Naija in South Africa.

He recently signed a recording deal with Sony Music Entertainment Africa.
