South Africa has officially submitted a bid to host the 2019 African Cup of Nation after Cameroon was stripped of the hosting rights.

According to the South African Football Association spokesman, Dominic Chimhavi, the country has formally notified the Confederation of African Football (Caf) of its intention to host the continental event.

“We have submitted our bid documents,” Chimhavi told AFP. “(It) is now up to CAF to decide (who hosts the 2019 Cup of Nations).”

Morocco had earlier said it was not interested in hosting the tournament with Caf putting the deadline for bids as 2200GMT on Friday.
