Police in Abia state on Tuesday said they arrested 37 suspected members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for staging a protest in Umuahia, the Abia state capital.

This protest was carried out weeks after 33 members of the group were arrested in Nnewi, Anambra state, and paraded for purportedly killing a policeman.

During Tuesday’s protest, the suspected IPOB members carried placards with several inscriptions including “the Jewish State of Biafra” amongst others.

Speaking on the protest, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Chris Ezike, in a telephone interview with The Nation, said the command arrested 37 members of the outlawed group.

He added that the personnel of the command also recovered Israeli and Biafra insignia from the IPOB members.

Ezike stated that law would soon take its cause after they have profiled the IPOB members.
