Nigeria beat South Africa on penalties to win the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations for a record 9th time on 1 December in Accra, Ghana

African champions Nigeria dropped one place, from 38th to 39th, in the latest Fifa Women’s World Ranking, in spite of their record-making feat at the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (Awcon).

The Super Falcons, who overcame South Africa on 1 December in Accra, Ghana, to win their ninth African title, got 19 points with a total of 1,607 as they remain the number one ranked side from the continent.

Another African side Cameroon moved up three places to place second in Africa and 46th in the World, while runner-up at the African tourney South Africa moved up two spots to finish the year in third position.

Meanwhile, the United States remain number one, followed by Germany, France, England, and Canada in the top five.
