Liverpool take on local rivals Everton in a potentially pulsating Merseyside derby on Sunday at Anfield.
While Jurgen Klopp’s men will be aiming to recover from a Midweek Champions League defeat to French side Paris Saint-Germain, the Toffees, under Marco Silva, will be looking to sustain their strong form in the Premier League.
Everton may have won five of their last seven league games, but against Liverpool, Silva should be rightfully worried because the Reds have not lost at home to the Toffees in 19 years.
And come to think of it, Klopp’s men have not lost in the Premier League this season.
What then are the managers saying?
Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool): “You cannot make anything with these results in the past. It is good that we won these games or got results from these games, the most exciting one was the late winner of Sadio (Mane) at Everton – that felt unbelievable.
“There were good games we played at home to Everton, but we have to make sure as a club we create an atmosphere so exceptional it will make it a little bit easier for the players to come into it 100 per cent in a fighting mood.”
Marco Silva (Everton): “It is an important match, it’s a special match for everyone in the city. We did everything in the same way to prepare our players well but of course it’s a special match.
“What I want to see in our team is for us to be ourselves, nothing different to what we did in the big games we already played until now. I’m sure this is what our fans want to see, for us to be ourselves, to fight to achieve a result.
“I feel it’s a special game for them as well but our fans want us to be the same team, playing to win the match, to be strong, to enjoy the moment and have the ambition to win.”
The match will kick off at 5:15pm Nigerian time.
