US President Donald Trump has called off a planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit in Argentina later this week.
Trump stated that this was due to the tension between Russia and Ukraine sparked by Moscow’s seizure of three of Kiev’s navy vessels earlier this week.
In a post on Twitter, the US President said: “Based on the fact that the ships and sailors have not been returned to Ukraine from Russia, I have decided it would be best for all parties concerned to cancel my previously scheduled meeting in Argentina with President Vladimir Putin.”
Trump had earlier stated that he may cancel a meeting with Putin following the maritime clash with Ukraine.
The US President told the Washington Post he was waiting for a “full report” after Russian ships fired on and seized three Ukrainian boats on Sunday.
Ukraine described it as an “act of aggression” but Russia said the ships had illegally entered its waters.
