The government of Zambia on Monday faulted reports in British media that there was a Zika virus in the country after the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, pulled out of a visit.
A British tabloid The Sun reported on Sunday that Prince Harry visited the south African nation without his wife due to Zika virus.
“We understand that there is freedom of expression, but the Sun editorial board should know that freedom comes with responsibility,” Zambian embassy in London said in a statement.
“Such unsearched and irresponsible reporting has the potential of damaging a country’s tourism and business prospects.”
The country has since demanded an apology and retraction of the story by the British tabloid.
The embassy stated that Zambia had never experienced any Zika case and has not been listed on the Centre for Disease Control and Protection as a country that’s prone to the disease.
