President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed shock and sadness at the demise of renowned poet Ikeogu Oke over the weekend, aged 51.
Concise News had reported that Ikeogu passed away at the National Hospital in Abuja after a protracted illness.
He was the winner of the 2017 Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Company Limited sponsored Prize for Literature.
In a statement on Monday, Buhari extended his condolences to the writer’s family and the Nigerian creative community.
Buhari described him as vibrant, innovative and intelligent, saying he was a social commentator constantly in search of plausible answers and solutions to contemporary issues bedeviling his society.
He also praised his committed and contributions to Nigeria’s literary space, noting that his legacies live on.
