Midfielder Rita Chikwelu says Nigeria’s Africa Women’s Cup of Nations semi-final clash with Cameroon would be difficult as the Indomitable Lionesses are one of the top sides in the continent.
The defending champions whitewashed former winners Equatorial Guinea 6-0 to confirm their place in the last four of the competition for the 11th straight time.
They had lost their opening group game to South Africa before recording wins against Zambia and Equatorial Guinea to finish behind Banyana Banyana on six points in Group B.
On their part, the Cameroonian ladies topped Group A, which included host nation Ghana, Mali and Kenya, with seven points from three matches.
But the Super Falcons have a better head-to-head record against the central Africans. Three of their titles were won against the Lionesses, with the triumph in 2016 in Yaounde the most recent.
And despite Nigeria’s dominance, based on previous games between the two nations, Chikwelu believes a tough game is in the offing on Tuesday in Accra.
“Against Cameroon, it will not be easy considering the last final, but we will give our best to ensure we make it to the final of AWCON,” she said after the team’s training.
