The Police on Wednesday said a clash between Fulani herders and farmers at Gora village of Safana Local Government of Katsina State, northern Nigeria has been brought under control.
DSP Isah Gambo, the Katsina Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO) confirmed the incident to journalists in Katsina.
The Katsina Police Command spokesman said the command had sent a contingent of mobile policemen to the area.
Gambo added that another team of joint security comprising soldiers, police from anti-robbery squad and operatives from the department of state security service had also been deployed to the area.
His words: “The violent clash took place when a herdsman pushed his cows into the farm of a farmer who was harvesting his beans,” he explained.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the incident occurred late Tuesday evening during which the herder in allegedly killed the farmer.
A source told NAN that the relatives of the farmer retaliated and also killed the herder.
According to the source, when the relations of the herder got the information that their brother had been killed, they trooped to Gora and started shooting at the farmers in sight.
Meanwhile, no fewer than twelve persons were feared dead and nine injured during the clash.
