Super Falcons bounced back from a shocking defeat to South Africa with an impressive 4-0 spanking of Zambia in a Group B Africa Women’s Cup of Nations game on Wednesday.
The African champions needed a strong response against the Shepolopolo, and goals from Desire Oparanozie, Francisca Ordega, Rashidat Ajibade and Amarachi Okoronkwo took the Falcons to second spot in the group.
Oparanozie put the west Africans in front just before half time, before Ordega made it 2-0 early on in the second half.
Substitute Ajibade fired home Nigeria’s third before another sub Okoronkwo put the icing on the cake with the last action of the game.
The Falcons will next take on Equatorial Guinea on Saturday, while Zambia confront their neighbours South Africa.
A win for Nigeria will confirm their place in the semi-finals.
This year’s edition of the competition serves as qualifiers for the 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup in France, with the top three teams emerging as Africa’s representatives.
