Nigeria captain Onome Ebi has declared that the Super Falcons will defend their Africa Women’s Cup of Nations title in Ghana 2018, despite losing their opening Group B match.

The Super Falcons were far from their best on Sunday as a late strike from substitute Chrestina Thembi Kgatlana gave South Africa the win.

Franscia Ordega, Asisat Oshoala, and Desire Oparanozie all missed great chances to have put away the Banyana Banyana.

“We are sorry (for the loss to South Africa). We were down but not out. We’re not leaving here without the trophy,” Ebi told reporters.

Next for the eight-time African champions is a game against Zambia, who shocked former African champions Equatorial Guinea with a 5-0 thrashing on Sunday night.

Nigeria lie in third spot without a point, while Zambia and their neighbours, South Africa, are first and second respectively, with pointless Equatorial Guinea occupying the floor of the group.
