1. Saraki’s PDP Loses Kwara Bye-election To APC

Candidate of APC, Raheem Olawuyi, has been declared winner of the Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency bye-election in Kwara, the home state of Senate President Bukola Saraki, who is a member of the PDP. Returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Abimbola Adesoji, said Olawuyi polled 21, 236 to defeat his closest rival, PDP’s Saheed Damilare, who polled 18, 095.

2. Army Kills Top Leader Of Group That Abducted Leah Sharibu

Ahmad Sale, one of the leaders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), has been killed by troops, the Nigerian Army said on Saturday. The group, which is a faction of Boko Haram, is believed to have abducted Leah Sharibu and 118 other Dapchi schoolgirls in February, 2018. A statement from the Army revealed that Sale, the ISWAP media chief, was killed in conjunction with personnel of the Nigerian Air Force.

3. Atiku To Address Nigerians, Reveals Platform, Day

Presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 elections, Atiku Abubakar, will on Monday commence his campaign. The former vice-president’s campaign organisation made this known on Saturday, saying that the PDP candidate will begin with an address to Nigerians via Facebook, at noon. It was learned that Atiku would inaugurate his policy document during the address.

4. Aregbesola: I Did Not Collect Salary For Eight Years As Governor

Governor Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State has revealed that he does not have a bank account in any part of the world. Speaking on Saturday in Osogbo, the outgoing governor also disclosed that he did not earn salaries throughout the eight years of his administration. He explained that since it was the state that was feeding him, fueling his cars and provided him with accommodation, there was no need for him to receive salaries.

5. Atiku To Northeast: Don’t Vote For APC In 2019

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday urged the people of the Northeast to send the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) packing in 2019. Speaking on Saturday during a reunion with his supporters upon return to his home state, Atiku said the people of the Northeast had a chance to regain political prominence in the country by voting the PDP from bottom to the top.

6. Saraki’s Aide Reacts To Viral Audio

Media aide to Senate President Bukola Saraki has dismissed an audio recording of his principal revealing why he is against the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. It was alleged that Saraki made this known while addressing his followers in Kwara State. But the Special Assistant on New Media to Saraki, Olu Onemola, claimed that the audio was doctored.

7. Senator Shehu Sani Kicks Against Atiku’s Plan To Sell NNPC

Senator Shehu Sani (PRP-Kaduna Central) has described Atiku Abubakar’s promise to sell off part of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) as “dangerous.” Atiku, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had in an interview vowed to sell off 90% of the corporation. Reacting in a post on his Twitter page on Saturday, Shehu Sani said: “Selling 90% of the NNPC as a campaign promise is being brutally frank and honest. “But it is a condemnable proposal and a dangerous intention.”

8. 2019 Elections: Otedola Endorses Sanwo-Olu

The Chairman of Forte Oil PLC, Femi Otedola, has thrown his weight behind the  governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for next year’s election. In a post on his Instagram handle on Saturday, Otedola described Sanwo-Olu as the incoming governor of Lagos State.

9. Boat Accident Leaves 11 Dead In Ogun

Eleven persons have lost their lives in a boat accident in Tafa River, Ipokia area of Ogun State, southwest Nigeria. Concise News learned from an eyewitness account that the boat, which was conveying 29 people, capsized due to a faulty engine.

10. Super Eagles Return To Afcon After Six Years

Nigeria have qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in six years following a 1-1 draw with South Africa in Johannesburg on Saturday. The Super Eagles, who had missed out on two consecutive Nations Cups (in 2015 and 2017) after winning the title in South Africa 2013, earned a place in Cameroon 2019 with a game in hand, having amassed 10 points from five matches in Group E.
