Senator Ben Murray-Bruce (PDP-Bayelsa East) has called on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to release funds to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Concise News had reported that the statistician-general of the federation, Yemi Kale, had said the federal government has not released money for the NBS to complete the unemployment report.

It has been a year since the bureau released Nigeria’s unemployment figures, which are usually released quarterly

The development has become a topic of discussion with Kale and the NBS been accused of hoarding the figures, in order not to damage the reputation of the Buhari administration going into an election year.

Reacting in a post on his Twitter page, Murray-Bruce stated that the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, will not treat the NBS in such manner if he wins the 2019 election.

He wrote: “The Buhari government should provide @sgyemikale, a PDP appointee, with the funds to do his job even if the report exposes that this government has a poor unemployment record.

“Yemi Kale won’t be treated like this in an Atiku administration”
