These are not the best of times for leader of Nigeria’s ruling APC, Adams Oshiomhole, as the country’s state security outfit expects him to answer more questions over corruption allegations against him.
It was reported that the Department of State Services (DSS) questioned the former Edo state governor for two consecutive days, Sunday and Monday, over petitions concerning corrupt activities during the party’s primary elections.
And Concise News understands that President Muhammadu Buhari was aware of the investigation of his party’s national chairman.
It was learned that the DSS boss, Yusufi Bichi, told Buhari about the agency’s intent to grill Oshiomhole over allegations levelled against him by some aggrieved members of the APC.
The Punch quoted Presidency sources as saying that the President actually asked the secret police to “go ahead and do their job” when he was told about the allegations of the party chairman.
The APC leaders and the governors believe that Oshiomhole did not handle the recently held party primaries across the country well.
“The comrade [Oshiomhole] is expected to return for further interrogation when he returns to the country. That’s why we released him on administrative bail,” Punch quoted a source as saying.
“We are still looking at his statements and also carrying out further investigations. This type of operation is not meant for the members of the public.
“Rather, we will brief the President when the report is ready. Oshiomhole is the national chairman of the President’s political party. He deserves to know our report first.”
