Africa’s overdependence on importation creates poverty and takes away jobs from the continent, according to the Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote.
Dangote said this on Wednesday in Johannesburg, South Africa at the maiden edition of the 2018 Africa Investment Forum.
He also noted that people from the continent must be in the lead if they are to industrialise the continent.
According to him, “If we want to industrialize Africa, Africans must lead.”
Speaking further, he noted that “Whenever you import, you are creating poverty and promoting jobs somewhere.”
He, therefore, called on governments across the continent to boost local production by supporting the manufacturing sector.
