On-loan Everton star Henry Onyekuru has replaced Odion Ighalo in the Super Eagles squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with South Africa.

Íghalo, who scored five goals in Nigeria’s back-to-back clashes with Libya in October, sustained the injury while in action for his club, Changchun Yatai, in a Chinese Super League clash on Wednesday.

And for Onyekuru, he only regained fitness over the weekend with his team, Galatasaray, after an injury in Nigeria’s last qualifying game against Libya in Sfax, Tunisia.

The Nigeria Football Federation announced Onyekuru’s call-up in a tweet on their handle.

Nigeria are top of Group E standings for the race to Cameroon, having gathered nine points from four games.

South Africa occupy second spot, just one point shy of the three-time African champions, who they defeated 2-0 in the first leg.

The Eagles have missed the last two editions of the competition, after winning the trophy last in South Africa in 2013.
