England captain Harry Kane has backed the England return of Wayne Rooney by describing it as an opportunity to recognise an “iconic player”.
Rooney is set to feature in England’s friendly with the United States at Wembley Stadium on November 15.
The match, which will see the DC United striker win his 120th cap, is to be called the Wayne Rooney Foundation International in support of the player’s charitable interests.
Kane says he and his team-mates cannot wait to be reunited with Rooney for one last time.
He said; “I do not know too much about how he is going to do it or how long he is going to play.
“But it will be great to see him again, see a few of the boys and a great experience for a few of the younger players in the team.
“Everyone should get right behind it and give him a great send-off.”
