Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife have been denied bail application by a Kaduna State High Court.
In his ruling in Kaduna on Wednesday, Justice Gideon Kurada said the accused persons had not shown any substantial medical evidence to grant them bail.
But Kurada ordered that the two accused should remain in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) throughout the period of their trial.
The judge adjourned the matter to January 22, 2019.
Zakzaky has been in detention since December 2015 when his followers clashed with troops of the Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna state.
He is facing trial over allegations of culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, and disruption of public peace.
