Theophilus Afelokhai says he is ready to justify his late invitation to the Super Eagles for a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with South Africa in Johannesburg.
The Enyimba number one goalie was called up on Monday by head coach Gernot Rohr after first choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho confirmed his withdrawal from the game due to injury.
He will now contend with Enyimba teammate Ikechukwu Ezenwa and South Africa-based Daniel Akpeyi for the number one position ahead of the Group E showdown.
“This is the opportunity I have been ready for,” he said.
“I hope to take it.”
Afelokhai, 30, was in superlative form for Enyimba in last season’s Caf Confederation Cup, where they lost to Morocco’s Raja Casablanca in the semi-finals.
The Super Eagles lead the group on 9 points, while Bafana Bafana, who stunned the Eagles in the first leg in Uyo, are in second position with eight points.
