Struggling AS Monaco have lost for the seventh time in the French league this season as Mathieu Cafaro’s goal gave Reims a 1-0 win over Thierry Henry’s men on Saturday.

The result left Henry without a win in four matches following his appointment as Monaco coach.

It was a game that saw the two sides finish with a man less. Reims’ Alaixys Romao was shown a straight red card for a high challenge on Youssef Ait Bennasser, while Monaco’s Pele was sent off for two bookings.

And speaking after the loss, Henry said: “It wasn’t about the tactics tonight. The desire wasn’t there.”

“Reims won the battles on the pitch and when you don’t win them, you can’t win whatever the level or league.”

The 2017 French champions remain second from bottom after a terrible start to the season.

Henry said, “Little of the play, not many chances and lots of duels lost. We were 11 against 10 but then we punish ourselves with the red card. We’re not managing these types of things well at the moment.”

Up next for Monaco is a Champions League clash with Club Brugge on Tuesday.
