Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has said that he would make sure “the law takes its course” following the death of 13-year old Ochanya Ogbanje.
Ochanya was reportedly sexually abused for five years by a Polytechnic lecturer Andrew Ogbuja and his son.
Ortom spoke on Tuesday in Makurdi when some people from Benue State University protested to the Government House over the issue.
“I am pained over her death because I also have daughters,” he said.
“What if it were any of them? Indeed, this matter will not be swept under the carpet, the law must take its cause.”
He thus called on those facing a similar situation like the late Ochanya to speak out so that such situations would be reduced to the barest minimum.
