The United Nations called for more protection for aid workers in crises-laden areas following Boko Haram’s execution of Hauwa Leman.
Hauwa was murdered by the terror group on Monday following the end of the ultimatum given to the Nigerian government by the insurgents.
In a statement, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres sent his “deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Ms. Liman and expresses his solidarity with the President and staff of the ICRC.
“Those responsible for this killing must be brought to justice.”
He expressed “concern for the safety and well-being of the remaining hostages and calls for their immediate release.
According to him, “all parties to the conflict must protect aid workers who provide life-saving humanitarian assistance to the millions of people in need in north-east Nigeria.”
