Nigerians have berated the President Muhammadu Buhari administration for the reported execution of an aid worker Hauwa Leman by Boko Haram insurgents.
The insurgents had given a 30-day ultimatum to the Nigerian government before they reportedly took the life of Hauwa, who worked with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
And Nigerians, who took to Twitter to lament this development, blamed the Buhari government for the reported killing of the 24-year-old.
Some of them accused the media and the country’s political elite of being more interested in activities leading up to the 2019 elections than the safety of Nigerians.
Concise News captured some of the tweets.
Nigeria happened to Hauwa Leman. More disappointing is that it happened on Buhari's watch. So all that "what is Boko Haram" posturing in 2015 was just what it was. They are more concerned with 2019 now. Very sad. #HauwaLeman

We failed Saifura Ahmed, she was executed on 16th of Sept. Today we have failed Hauwa Leman who was also executed by the terrorists after they gave a 30days warning
We failed you Hauwa
This is a Nation with no empathy, a nation with soulless leaders

Announced execution of Hauwa Leman of @ICRC heartbreaking! Government appears helpless as lives are wasted needlessly. The FG must ensure the release of Leah Sharibu and others still being held captive. This cycle of bloodletting must be broken. May she Rest In Peace.

Are we still under the illusion that the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a faction of Boko Haram, is not controlling territories; physical and/or psychological spaces?
Well, the execution pf Hauwa Leman, a HUMANITARIAN aide of ICRC clears that. Rest in Peace. Amen

Did we fail Hauwa Leman by thinking that the Buhari Govt was doing something at least to set her free?
Should we have pushed harder for her release and asked the Buhari Govt to let us know what they were doing to set her free or were we all carried away by political season?
