Odion Ighalo made it five goals in two matches as he struck twice in Nigeria’s 3-2 win over stubborn Libya in a Group E 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Sfax, Tunisia, on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles, by virtue of this win, lead the group on nine points, one better than second-placed South Africa, who played a goalless draw with Seychelles earlier in the day.
Ighalo, who plays his club football in the Chinese league, bagged a hat-trick in the reverse fixture with the Mediterranean Knights on Saturday in Uyo.
The former Watford forward put Nigeria in front in the 14th minute before captain Ahmed Musa made it 2-0 three minutes later.
Libya bounced backed.
They pulled one back through Mohamed Zubya in the 35th minute and then got an equaliser courtesy of Ahmad Benali’s effort in the 74th minute.
But Ighalo restored Nigeria’s lead.
He did that in the 81st minute, as Gernot Rohr’s men win their third straight match in the group phase of the qualifiers for next year’s tournament in Cameroun.
