Tanzania have not won a game in the 2019 Afcon qualification race/Complete Sports

Former Super Eagles winger, Emmanuel Amuneke, on Friday suffered his first defeat in charge of Tanzania after losing 3-0 away to Cape Verde in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Group L fixture.

The Taifa Stars are still searching for their first win in the qualifying series following draws in their opening two games against Lesotho and Uganda.

Amuneke’s first official game in charge of the team last month saw the Tanzanians drawing 0-0 away against Uganda in Kampala.

They now occupy last position in Group L following the defeat and face a daunting task in their bid to make a return to the AFCON after last participating in the competition in 1980, which was hosted by Nigeria.

Ricardo Gomes grabbed a brace for Cape Verde in the 16th and 23rd minutes respectively, while Stopira added the third five minutes from time.

The Taifa Stars will now hope for a better result when they host their opponent in the reverse fixture on Tuesday at the National Stadium in Dar Es Salaam.

Uganda will host Lesotho in the group’s other fixture at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, Kampala on Saturday.

A win or draw for the Cranes will see them move to top position in the group ahead of Cape Verde.
