The world’s fastest man Usain Bolt has made a bold statement in the football world by scoring twice in his second trial match for Australian side Central Coast Mariners on Friday.

The eight-time Olympic sprint champion struck in a 20-minute second-half period as the Mariners eased to a 4-0 win over Macarthur South West United.

“My first start and scoring two goals, it’s a good feeling,” the 32-year-old said afterwards.

“I’m happy I could come here and show the world I’m improving. I’m keen to be a Mariner, to play my best and get into the team.”

The next Australian A-League season kicks off on 19 October and the Mariners are yet to confirm whether Bolt will be offered a contract.

Bolt, who is the world record holder in 100m and 200m, has previously trained with Borussia Dortmund, South African club Mamelodi Sundowns and Norway’s Stromsgodset.

The Jamaican called time on his athletics career in 2017.
