The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 elections, Atiku Abubakar, has reportedly picked former Anambra state governor Peter Obi as his running mate.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo had on Thursday thrown his weight behind the presidential candidate of PDP for the 2019 elections.
Atiku, who was Nigeria’s vice president during Obasanjo’s presidency from 1999 to 2007, is the main candidate challenging President Muhammadu Buhari for Nigeria’s highest office next year.
Concise News had on Friday reported that Atiku met with Obi behind closed doors in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
Obi emerged the preferred choice of both the party and the candidate after series of consultations by stakeholders in the party and outside it.
Concise News gathered that the name of Obi and that of Atiku will be sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission next week.
