The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared its intention to conduct fresh legislative primaries across the 192 wards in Edo State today.
This was made known through the chairman of the state primary election committee, Hajia Farida Suleiman when she disclosed this to journalists on Friday evening.
She added that the decision was made after a meeting with party members at the state secretariat in Benin, the state capital.
The National Working Committee had on Thursday canceled what it described as “authorised congresses” held in the state to elect candidates for the 2019 general elections.
The state chapter had rejected the decision, adding the exercise was held in accordance with the party’s guidelines.
But Suleiman said that the exercise organised on Thursday remained illegal as it was not conducted by the committee.
She, however, assured that the committee would ensure a free, fair and transparent exercise.
