Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi was left out of the team’s squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Libya due to fitness concerns, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have said.
Mikel was also left out of the team that beat Seychelles 3-0 last month.
Speaking on the development, the NFF Media Officer Toyin Ibitoye told Channels TV that Mikel was still recovering from injury.
According to Ibitoye, the former Chelsea man would not be able to face the hassles of flying down to Nigeria to play two games in a space of three days.
This, he said, was to avert any re-occurrence of the injury, revealing that the Tianjin Teda man would be available as the side take on South Africa in another qualification series game in November.
He also assured that the three-time African champions would be ready to take six points in the games against the Maghreb nation.
