Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has said defender David Luiz was confused during the reign of former club manager Antonio Conte.
The Brazilian who was a key man in the Blues 2016-17 triumph under Conte, did not, however, have much game time the following term.
He was rumoured to have a rift with the Italian manager after a series of injuries.
Sarri, has, however, given the defender a lifeline after he took over the team in the summer.
And speaking about the Brazilian, the gaffer said Luiz was a protagonist and a bit confused while Conte was in charge.
“Two seasons ago he was a protagonist,” said Sarri. “Then six months ago he was not playing, so he was a little confused.”
Sarri added that “He’s direct. If he has to say something to the manager he has to talk to me.
“I like very much direct people. When I arrived here immediately I had the feeling he’s a very good player for my way of football because he’s a centre-back who is very technical.
“Then I appreciate his qualities as a man. He’s really better than I thought before.”
