The Ambode Mandate Support Group (AMSG) has petitioned National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, over the endorsement of Babajide Sanwo-Olu ahead of the party’s governorship primary in Lagos.
The group said that the APC leadership in Lagos had violated the party’s constitution by endorsing Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s opponent for the ticket, an action it said was undemocratic.
Speaking at a rally on Sunday in Lagos,
Chairman of the group, Akeem Sulaimon, made this know on Sunday at a rally organised in support of Ambode.
Concise News had reported that the Governorship Advisory Council (GAC), which is the highest decision making organ in Lagos APC, had endorsed Sanwo-Olu.
It followed the stepping down of a third aspirant, Olufemi Hamzat, from the race.
Hamzat said he stepped down to back Sanwo-Olu, who is Managing Director, Lagos State Development and Property Corporation.
But Sulaimon, who is also the special Adviser to Ambode on Communities and Communications, said that the support group could not understand why the second term bid of the governor was being hindered.
He said current events had shown that the leadership of the state executive had been compromised and therefore could not produce an unbiased primary election.
