Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may lose the state if he does not emerge as the party’s governorship candidate for 2019 elections.
Ambode noted this on Sunday in Lagos during a world press conference where he stressed that giving the ticket to another aspirant would jeopardise the party’s chances.
According to him, he is still a full-fledged member of the APC, believes in the principles of democracy and would be going in for the primary on Monday.
He noted that he was going in for a second term to consolidate on the gains he had recorded so far.
The rather vocal Ambode said he had brought more persons into the party than any other government.
On Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s ambition for the party’s governorship ticket, the governor boasted that with his works in the state, he would beat him hands-down.
He called on the party’s leadership to conduct a free and fair primary since it believes in the tenets of democracy.
And on the rumoured importation of thugs into Nigeria’s commercial city, Ambode assured that his government would not allow anyone to trample on the people of the state.
